Meet RK

Playing music most of my life has afforded me the opportunity to perform in music groups. Most recently, I’ve portrayed Ronnie Dunn in a Brooks & Dunn Tribute Show, singing and playing guitar. I also had the chance to play the part of The Edge in a U2 Tribute band. Why is this relevant? My experiences in music help students play faster and better. As a music teacher, I take pride in this.

I started teaching guitar in my teens, and later in college expanded into piano and singing. Learning to read music lead me to understand music theory. This experience allows me to be a versed music teacher. I play lead, rhythm, bass, finger-pick on the guitar, sing, and play piano. Singing and playing piano involve the same notes, but slightly different. With a piano, you can play chords with both hands and of course individual notes, whereas with the guitar, you generally use the left hand for chords, and strum the rhythms. You pick out individual notes with the right.

As a voice coach, I tell my students that like any instrument, your voice needs proper training and care to utilize its full potential. Most everyone has one and everyone’s voice is unique. My singing voice sounds quite a bit like my father’s singing voice, so there is genetics at work. Many music teachers will tell you you can only sing individual notes, however, you can also sing chords by singing your individual notes along with other singers singing their individual notes.

Following my musical instructions, students develop their instruments and voice and get to where they want to be with music a lot faster. I get great satisfaction from seeing and hearing my students’ progress. You won’t regret my being your music teacher!
